Even if you side with the minuteman you need to put minimal effort into the actual building.Nexus Mods was founded by Robin Scott and a friend in August 2001 as a fan site for the Bethesda Softworks game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind under the name of Morrowind Chronicles. That said you're making settlement building out to be a much bigger part of the game then it actually is imo. They can impossible make a game that doesn't piss off part of the player base. There's still so much more to the game, even for players that don't like the building. You just need to craft and dump it in a build able area, no need for the rest that usually comes with settlement building. But general rewarding area's for exploring are still plentiful.Īnd yes, settlement building is optional, you don't need to make a settlement for the teleporter. The settlement building did 'kill' potential towns, there are only a few pre build one's. I feel people that are constantly using these examples are just cherry picking. And I agree some areas are underdeveloped, but there are still so much more complete area's with interesting quests or stories to be found. Junk is still used for crafting and upgrading items, it's not just used for settlements. Last I checked I didn’t play a Fallout game to play a shallow sims clone where the sims tell you to go to random places on the map and kill things then come back.Īnd yes it’s “optional” (until the game expects you to use it to build a teleporter in the main quest that is), but from a design perspective you can’t have such a major mechanic simply be “optional” without pissing off a portion of your fanbase and sacrificing dev-time that could’ve been spent refining the core, instead of adding bloat. It doesn’t help that the player settlements themselves are so shallow and offer no interesting content aside from Bethesda’s terrible idea of radiant quests they have tried to push in their last couple if games. It doesn’t help either that junk is “useful” now, which means sometimes they reward players with literal junk because it’s useful for settlement building! Imagine being someone who doesn’t give a fuck about building settlements coming across something so cool only to see a workbench. Or, hey there’s a drive-in theatre, maybe there’s a quest where you can collect videos and make it a functioning theatre again? Nope, it’s empty, has a couple of boring skeletons and a workbench. There’s that robot race track that sounds like a cool quest until nope, it’s just a shootout. It’s like they wasted a load of potential, and pre-built settlements they cut they just dumped a workbench in and/or dumped a load of generic raiders/supermutants and called it a day. uj There’s plenty of valid complaints, the one you said is just the most damning one.
